Top 5 Tuesdays: Summer Memories

Ok, I’m going to admit, I was absolutely inspired by a couple of posts that I will link.  One is about giving your children a 1970’s summer and the other was about a mother’s explanation of summer.  I am totally going there is THIS Top 5 Tuesday.

1. My friend’s HUGE (ok, it was itty bitty, but it felt HUGE to us) Swimming Pool.  Every year we would wait for the weather to hit 80 so that we could get her pool set up.  I can remember calling the weather lines on my grandmothers rotary dial phones and praying at least 1 of them said it was 80 degrees.

2. Swimming at the YMCA.  It wasn’t an ALL the time event, but when it happened, it was magical… well, sometimes anyway 😉

3. Swimming at another friends BIG (REAL) pool.  There were a couple of summer’s I can remember spending quite a bit of time with this friend.  Isn’t it funny that while I am not the greatest doggie paddler out there, over half of this weeks post is about swimming.

4. Riding Bikes For HOURS. Okay, we really weren’t riding that WHOLE time, but in the neighborhood I grew up in, we were always spotted by bikes.  If we couldn’t find our friend, we just rode around until we saw their bike somewhere.

5. Summer Camps.  Some people might find it a shock (mainly my mom) but, it is last because while it was awesome and amazing, it wasn’t THE BEST time, it was, however, a really good time. It deserves to be mentioned on my Top 5 for sure 🙂

So there you have it, my Top 5 Memories… now I better get the kids a small pool for the yard so they can start making the same memories I did as a child… Oh, wait, I already have one!!!

Top 5 Tuesdays: Reasons I Love Blogging

I just can’t leave this alone.  I LOVE my Top 5 Tuesdays and I’m excited to start ’em back up again.  In today’s Top  5 Tuesday’s edition I am going to talk about the Top 5 reasons I love blogging.

1. I love writing.  I know I may not write as much as I would like to, but the idea of putting words down on screen and out of my head is pretty awesome.  I have written plenty of posts that may never get published, however the act of getting the ideas out of my head is better than any medicine.

2. It gives me a platform to address anything I want (and I have).  From parenting, to health, to mental illness and more, it gives me a place to talk about issues I feel people need to be educated on, and also a place to get great discussions going.

3. I have fun.  I love the idea that I am “working” even though I don’t feel like I am.  It is amazing to be able to “work” at midnight, for about 30-45 minutes and have great content to use in future blog posts and still make it to bed in time to get up at a decent hour.

4. I LOVE to talk.  I always have (you can ask my mom, she’d tell ya the same).  I love it even more when people are interested in what I have to say, and let’s just face it, you don’t just click on something you don’t have any interest in or want to read.

5. I have an amazing life to write about.  Some good stuff, some bad stuff, and some ugly stuff.  The perfect mix for bringing in the interest of others and making friends and forming relationships (which is a whole other blog post in itself)

Do you blog???  If not, have you thought about it???  What are some of your favorite reasons to blog???

Motivation Mondays: Let’s Set Some Goals

Welcome to Motivation Mondays.  This is going to kick off our week with an AMAZING sense of motivation.  I love Mondays.  Everything feels very fresh, new, and easy to start over.  Mondays make great days to sit down and write some goals and plan out the week.

Today: Take some time and set those goals for the week.  Make them achievable within the week’s time frame, and also maybe jot down a few steps to achieving them.

My goals for this week are to get this blog back in shape (scheduling posts ahead of time is a great help for this).  Also, looking into various steps of our move in the next couple of weeks.

Want some accountability for those goals???  Write them down in the comments section and as a community we can help keep ourselves and each other on track.

What’s In Store For 2015

This week marks a new beginning in “The Adventures of ‘But Mom'”.  I am excited to be jumping back in FULL FORCE.  I have several topics that will just be sprinkled around the blog with no real rhyme or reason, but rather just however things come to me.  I will be writing some “how to” articles about making healthier alternatives to cleaners and household products.  I will be doing some reviews on some items that are store bought household products (Thanks Influenster).  I have a few new yummy recipes I will be sharing. Tips on budgeting and moving and living within your means.  Last, but certainly NOT least I will be sharing some awesome Ideas we are doing with the girls as “homeschool preschool”.

This is going to be an exciting year for us and I am happy to be able to share it with you all.  I love writing and I love when something I write inspires or helps someone else, this is the reason I write, and it is my passion.

So, now that I did the exciting intro of what’s to come, let me catch everyone up on our lives.  My family is currently in the middle of a move.  It is going to be a HUGE life change for us as we are seeking a place that is away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and in an area where things are slower and my children can be children.  Once we are moved and settled in, I will do a walk-through video of our place and show you just how we choose to set up areas like “Food Storage” “preschool area” and the play areas.

We are moving back to a place of simplicity.  I am exhausted with trying to “keep up” with city life, so fingers crossed out into the rural area we go.  My plans for this spring include planting a container garden for some fresh herbs and veggies, creating functional play areas for the girls to investigate explore and get creative, start saving money in 3 different areas: To buy a piece of land, to start an emergency fund, and to take our first REAL vacation to Disney sometime in 2016.

I am thankful you are on this journey with us.  Hold on tight, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.
