Working Together Wednesday: Kettlebell Burn

Working (2)

Happy Wednesday!!! On today’s Working Together Wednesday, we talk to Justin Cox, from Kettlebell Burn. Justin is an amazing man with a true passion for helping women get into shape, and I have had the pleasure of working with Justin and I must say, I so glad I did. His passion truly shines through in what he does.

Ready to learn more about Kettlebell Burn and Justin??? Here we go!!!

1. Give us a quick intro of you and your family.

Hey! Thanks for interviewing me. I really appreciate it. My name is Justin Cox, and I own Kettlebell Burn. I have a beautiful daughter who is 7 years old. And in true princess fashion will be turning 29 this fall. She is my world, and also the reason I train.

Let’s see, my background. Hmm. Well I grew up as an athlete. I was a competitive athlete from the age of 5 until 25 when my daughter was born. So I have always been in the fitness world. When I got to college and discovered that I could make a career out of being in fitness, there was no turning back. I immediately became a personal trainer, and completed got my degree in Exercise Science.

After college I decided to continue to grow my personal training business and soon opened up my own studio. I was an in person personal trainer for over 10 years before I decided to move my business online. That is where I developed a deep understanding of working with women. I know it sounds cliche. Everyone in the fitness world says they work with moms. But it turns out that the market for athletes, my original specialty, in rural northern MN is pretty slim. So I spent 10 years working with, and getting to know on a deep level, how to work with women.

What motivates them. What their true fears are. What they really want to achieve. All of that combined with my unique lifestyle / habit based coaching is what I bring to the online world.

That pretty much brings us up to today.

2. What is your business/blog?
My website is

That is my center of operations and where I do all of my coaching from. I am going to warn you though, if you go to that website, you won’t find a lot. I spend most of my time working with my members rather than writing a ton of blog content. In fact, I don’t think I even have a current blog post active on the menu.

3. What is your best piece of advice?
I love this question. Because it is never what people think it is. My best advice is to start easy.

Everyone always thinks it will be something about kettlebells, or some diet tip. In reality, the biggest problem I see when women get started with a new transformation program is that they fall into the trap of feeling they need to be extreme. But you can’t blame them either. With the popularity of the Beach Body workouts (P90X, Insanity, Hard Corps, etc..) and CrossFit, we as a culture have this thing right now about being extreme when it comes to fitness.

We want to start an extreme workout everyday, we want to completely overhaul our diets, we want to go 100 miles per hour in this direction and then that direction. What ends up happening is that the stress of it all quickly overwhelms us and we end up dropping the program withing a few short weeks. It is far and few between the people who have success stories from doing it that way.

In reality, what moms need to do is lighten up on themselves, accept that it won’t happen in 12 weeks, even though all the magazines and ads keep saying it will, and start with something easy. Start with something easy that allows them to get some initial success which will then begin to snowball and have huge effects over time. But by doing it this way, they wont feel overwhelmed in the process and will be able to keep rocking the whole time.

For example, one of my foundation habits: Getting 8 hours of sleep, drinking half your bodyweight in ounces of water everyday, and taking your multivitamins/fish oil everyday. Those are 3 great and easy places to start. Start with one of those and then progress into harder things like working out everyday.

4. Where can we find you? (like an email, or your social media networks)
My Facebook is a great place to start.

My website is
You can email me directly at

Top 5 Tuesdays: Top 5 Goals for 34

I have been doing a lot of serious and heartfelt posts lately, and while I LOVE that I am able to do that, I really am excited to be able to tone it down a bit with seriousness and have some fun,  Tomorrow is my Birthday, and as I have said before I heart birthdays and believe that everyone should have a day where they are honored and fun stuff happens.  So, for the next 2 days my posts will have a more “Fun” appeal and less serious tone.  I know maybe goals seem very serious business to some, and while they ARE serious goals, I had a lot of fun thinking and dreaming about where I want my life to be in a years time.  Sooo… Here we go, my  Top 5 goals for 34.

1. Pamper Myself.  This is very important to me because 1) who doesn’t LOVE the feeling of being pampered, and feel much less stressed and happier as a result. 2) I want my girls to NOTICE me doing this as they get older, I want them to realize this as just a part of being a woman, and do the same without truly having to “make a goal” of it.  Every woman deserves to be pampered, and by doing something small each week, I hope it will become something my girls do for themselves more easily than I do it for myself.

2. Quality Time With Family.  I think we have all had this goal at one point or another, but I am noticing that as the blog picks up, as I am finding my voice and writing more and also engaging with other blogs more, I have less time.  I know there really is no real way around this, since time is time and it can’t stop or be rewound.  This year my goal is to spend more QUALITY time with each of my girls separately and also “But Dad”.  Spending quality time is much better than just going through the motions, and as the girls get older I’ll get to help them explore their own interests as well as help them understand a bit more of the world around them, AND as an added bonus, when I spend quality time with “But Dad” as well it balances our family and everyone is happier and less stressed.  SUPER WIN right there.

3. Causes.  I am not going to spend a lot of time on this, other than saying that I feel like I need to be giving back to the causes I support, and I plan on doing that not only through money, but time, and other ways such as awareness blog posts and also engaging in fundraisers and other community events.  Getting out of my comfort zone for sure, but, it is something I feel I need to be doing at this point for all areas of my life.

4. Blog.   I’m sure you all knew that my blog would be on here somewhere.  I really am excited about where this blog has gotten to in the last 2 months.  I feel a large responsibility now which really is a good thing.  In days and months past, I felt as if I was really just blogging for myself and so if I didn’t post for a month or 2 it was simply just how it was.  Now I am excited to share with my awesome followers our journey, and also have the chance to help others in the process. I am looking forward to our community growing this year, and also to bringing you all great content AND great causes to learn about and support. I know that wasn’t hugely clear there, so goal for blog is growth.

5. Starting my Healthy Living Journey.  Now I have been on this roller coaster of ups and downs on the “healthy living” front for YEARS now.  Truth is, I really just need to make tweaks to my life to start living healthier so I have more energy to have fun with the family, but ALSO so that my girls can learn these GOOD habits and not struggle the ways that I have.  I am NOT going all out on this diet or that diet and I’m not making all the changes at once.  Baby steps for this mama and I’m looking forward to the progress as the year unfolds.

So there you have it, my top 5 goals for 34.  I have to say I am really excited and looking forward to this year.  I know amazing things are going to happen, and I can’t wait to see what those things are!!!

Do you use birthdays as a time for goal setting???

Working Together Wednesdays: Leading By Example Blog- Cristin Xavier

Untitled design (4)

Welcome to week 2 of Working Together Wednesdays.  Today I would like to introduce you to a blogger friend of mine who is fairly new to the business and is an AMAZING inspiration to me and to other women as well.  Her name is Cristin Xavier, and I’ll just jump right into this interview.

Q. Give us a quick introduction to you and your family.

A.  My name is Cristin Xavier. I’ve been happily married to my husband, Brian for 8 years. We live in New York and both have for our entire lives. We have two girls that light up my life. Josie is 5 and Julia is 2. I am a fitness coach and freelance bookkeeper. I recently lost 25 lbs and find true joy in helping moms like me to get healthy and get their confidence back. So often, when we have small children, it feels impossible to get the weight off and often we put ourselves last because everything else seems so much more important. I used to convince myself that I didn’t care about the baby weight but I’d find myself so upset when I saw how I looked in pictures. I had no energy and wasn’t at my best in many areas of my life. I don’t think it’s as important to lose the weight as it is to find our confidence, which is often a wonderful side effect of losing the baby weight and getting healthy. It’s also so important to find time each day to focus on ourselves. Similar to airplane safety, you need to put the oxygen on yourself first so you can help your family. I help moms make time to get healthy, get their families healthier, and become a better version of themselves. I like to think I teach moms to lead by example when it comes to health, fitness, and overall well-being

Q. What is your blog/business?

A.  I blog at I’m pretty new to blogging but I’ve found that it’s an amazing place to help inspire moms and women to get fit. Not long ago, I used to hate working out. I found it to be a chore instead of an opportunity to help myself and become a better person. I share tips with busy moms to find motivation to get moving and to get dedicated to health and fitness. I also share healthy recipes that are easy to prepare because let’s be honest, we’re all really busy! I only have a short time in the day to make lunch and dinner and to keep it as healthy as I can so I only share recipes that my family loves and that are under 10 minutes to prepare. As a fitness coach, I know I can really make a difference in people’s lives. I match women up with programs that suit their goals and their lifestyle. The women I help make me feel like I’m serving my purpose. I’ve also come across women who felt the same way and wanted to keep paying it forward. I always encourage these women to lead truly inspired lives by becoming part of my team and coaching with me. I love sharing my methods to become a successful Mompreneur and to be able to work from home. It’s so amazing to have more time with your children while enjoying your professional life. I’m all about making new friends and helping everyone I come across to get inspired to lead a healthier life, so please feel free to reach out to me through my blog.

Q.  What is one piece of advice you’d give women?

A.  The best piece of advice I can give any woman is to find time to do you and to truly believe in yourself. As a mom, I always used to question myself. Motherhood is a strange role. I’m responsible for these little people and I know that I have my own flaws so I always worry about what I’m going to pass on to my daughters. I find that this gets worse when I’m only focusing on them and my husband and never myself. Recently, I’ve taken the time to focus on me for at least 40 minutes each day. I use this time for personal development. Every day I make sure to get my 30 minute workout in. My kids do it with me (well, Julia does it with me but I know Josie is watching) and that helps me to know that I’m doing something right because if nothing else, at least my girls will always know how important their health is. I also take 10 minutes every night to read a book about how I can keep becoming a better person. Right now I’m reading The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon. These 2 things (exercise and personal development) have lead me to feel more empowered and confident than I think I’ve ever felt in my whole life. It’s an amazing feeling to know that you’re on the path you’re meant to be on. I hope that you check out my blog and use the info to tap into something that you’re passionate about. My blog may be new but I promise, there’s tons of more amazing info to come. It took me a very long time to find my path but now that I have, I lead an inspired life and you can too.

Q.  Where can we find and connect with you?

A.  There are so many ways you can find me. The best way is to go to my blog at I’ve connected all my social media through there (email, Facebook, Periscope, Twitter, Instagram etc.). My favorite social media are Facebook and Periscope so please feel free to friend me or follow me. I feel like these are both such amazing ways to connect. Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to me. We’re all here to connect and share our journeys. I’d love to share mine with you and hear all about yours.

Thank you, Cristin for allowing me to interview you.  Please follow Cristin for amazing motivation and great tips.
